Philippine Navy to get 2 attack boats

Michael Punongbayan - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Two fast attack interdiction boats are expected to be delivered to the Philippine Navy in the coming weeks.

The boats have undergone sea trials in Israel, with the Philippine Navy inspection team onboard to evaluate the sea vessels’ performance.

Naval Public Affairs Office chief Commander Benjo Negranza said the inspection and testing of mission-critical machineries were held from June 27 to 30.

Negranza said the inspection also included navigation and communications equipment as well as live firing of the attack boats’ combat systems.

The attack boats are expected to arrive in the country in the third quarter of the year, he said.

“The acquisition of the boats is part of the Philippine Navy’s effort to become a modern naval force, responsible for protecting the country’s maritime sovereignty,” Negranza said.
