Damaged MMDA floodgates fixed soon – Sandoval
MANILA, Philippines — Damaged floodgates that caused weeks-long flooding in Malabon City would be fixed by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and reopened soon, Mayor Jeannie Sandoval said on Friday.
The floodgate in Barangay Hulong Duhat that the MMDA maintains would be repaired within three days, Sandoval said as she inspected the work being done on the floodgate as well as the flooded homes in the barangay, particularly along Don Basilio Bautista Boulevard.
She also led the distribution of relief packs that contained instant noodles, canned goods, instant coffee and oat drink and biscuits to affected residents.
She assured her constituents that they would no longer suffer from the flood but asked them to remain patient.
Some residents reported that the flood, which was at least three feet deep in some areas, has started to subside and that they have begun to clean up.
Barangays Hulong Duhat and Dampalit had been flooded for weeks after the MMDA’s floodgates in Navotas and Malabon were damaged in March due to excessive amounts of silt, officials said.
