Soldier killed in Apayao clash with Reds

GAMU, Isabela, Philippines — A soldier was killed in an encounter with New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Barangay Katablangan, Conner, Apayao on Thursday afternoon.

The fatality was not identified pending notification of his family members.

Capt. Ringor Pamittan, civil-military officer of the 5th Infantry Division, said personnel of the the 52nd Division Reconnaissance Company launched combat operations when they chanced upon the members of the NPA’s Komiteng Larangang Guerrilla North Abra in the area.

In Negros Oriental, the 11th Infantry Battalion said an NPA rebel died in a clash in Sitio Tamusin, Barangay Talalak in Sta. Catalina town. Guns and ammunition were recovered from the fatality. – Victor Martin
