Suspect in ex-Pangasinan governor slay try falls
SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, Philippines — A suspect in the slay attempt on former Pangasinan governor Amado Espino Jr. was arrested in Barangay Mawaque in Mabalacat, Pampanga on Friday.
Reports reaching Col. Alvin Ruby Consolacion, acting Pampanga police director, identified the suspect only by his aliases of Win and Roger, a former Army soldier and a native of Mangatarem, Pangasinan.
The suspect is said to be a member of a private armed group. His arrest was based on warrants for murder, attempted murder and frustrated murder.
Lt. Col. Heryl Bruno, Mabalacat police chief, said investigation showed that the suspect was one of those tagged in the gun attack on Espino and his party on Sept. 11, 2019.
One of Espino’s aides, S/Sgt. Richard Esguerra and driver Agapito Cuison were killed.
Three other companions of the former governor were wounded.
The Department of the Interior and Local Government had offered a reward of P405,000 for information leading to the arrest of the suspect.
