MANILA, Philippines — Despite the closure of the Timog flyover along EDSA, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said yesterday the traffic situation in the area is still manageable.
The MMDA, however, said long lines of vehicles traversing the highway resulted in traffic jams during rush hour yesterday.
In a statement, MMDA Chairman Romando Artes said based on their initial assessment, the traffic situation along EDSA Kamuning service road “remains manageable.”
He said the MMDA deployed at least 100 additional enforcers to manage traffic along EDSA.
“They will be assisted by the Highway Patrol Group and enforcers from the Quezon City government,” Artes said.
“The MMDA is also considering making adjustments on the traffic lights, if necessary,” he added.
The Timog flyover will be closed for repairs for a month.
The agency advised motorists to take these alternate routes: Mother Ignacia Avenue, Panay Avenue, Scout Albano and Scout Borromeo.
Based on the vehicle count conducted by the MMDA Traffic Engineering Center, 109,124 cars passed through EDSA daily last May.
The agency said 57,354 vehicles used the Kamuning flyover while 51,770 cars passed through the service road.
