Party-list group’s nominees resign
MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections’ law department yesterday received the resignation letter of all nominees of the Komunidad ng Pamilya, Pasyente at Persons with Disabilities, or P3PWD party-list group as it named new nominees, led by retired Comelec commissioner Rowena Guanzon.
Comelec acting spokesman Rex Laudiangco, who also heads the law department, said his office received the cover letter and notarized affidavit of filing of board resolution.
Laudiangco said that P3PWD nominees Grace Yeneza, Ira Paulo Pozon, Mariane Heidi Cruz Fullon, Peter Jonas David and Lily Grace Tiangco resigned from their nomination and were replaced by Guanzon, Rosalie Garcia, Cherrie Belmonte-Lim, Donnabel Tenorio and Rodolfo Villar Jr.
Asked if Guanzon qualifies for the nomination, Laudiangco said the qualifications of nominees are based on the qualifications for members of the House of Representatives under the Constitution “and as provided in the Party-List Act or Republic Act 7941.”
The deadline for substitution lapsed on Nov. 15, 2021, but Laudiangco said the Comelec allowed the substitution of new nominees since all of P3PWD’s nominees resigned.
He said Guanzon will be elected as representative of the P3PWD, which secured one House seat, “if the commission approves and grants the submission of this new list of nominees.”
