DMW can’t use POEA budget – DBM
MANILA, Philippines — The newly created Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has been cautioned against using the 2022 budget of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA).
Department of Budget and Management officer-in- charge Tina Rose Marie Canda said DMW Secretary Abdullah Mama-o has no authority to utilize the POEA budget.
“Since the DMW did not meet the requirements under the law, there will be no complete transfer of funding until the agency is fully constituted,” Canda explained.
She said the DMW must be fully constituted in accordance with Republic Act 11641.
Canda said the DMW is still undergoing a two-year transition period.
“Government agencies attached to the DMW should continue to operate and perform their respective mandates,” she said.
POEA chief Bernard Olalia must continue to exercise authority over the agency, according to Ganda.
