Mandaluyong fire leaves 72 families homeless
MANILA, Philippines — At least 72 families were displaced in a fire that broke out in a residential area in Mandaluyong City on Monday afternoon.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said around 36 houses beside the Pasig River in Barangay Barangka Ibaba were destroyed in the fire, which started at around 2:58 p.m.
Arson probers said the fire originated on the second floor of a two-story house owned by Edilberta Glinogo.
The fire reached second alarm before it was put out by firefighters at around 4:44 p.m.
No one was killed or injured in the fire, the BFP said.
Investigators have yet to determine the cause of the fire that destroyed P180,000 worth of property.
Mayor Carmelita Abalos said the local government has provided relief assistance and tents to the displaced residents.
The BFP said 74 fire trucks, five ambulances and two rescue boats responded to the scene.
