MANILA, Philippines — Three children died and three others were injured when a fire razed a three-story residential building in Quezon City yesterday morning.

In a report, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the remains of Princess del Rosario, 9, and her siblings Renesmae, 8, and Alvin, 4, were recovered following mopping-up operations.

The fatalities were trapped in the room on the third floor, the BFP said.

Arson probers said the children’s parents and 12-year-old sibling suffered injuries. They were rushed to the East Avenue Medical Center for treatment.

According to the victims’ father, his wife was awakened by the smoke in their room located on the third floor of the building.

When they opened their bedroom, he said the living room was already engulfed by fire.

He said he grabbed his youngest child, who is only four months old, and ran to the second floor where he threw the baby out the window to a neighbor who caught the infant safely.

He and his wife as well as their eldest child jumped out of the second floor window.

The BFP said the fire broke out at the victims’ house along Kaliraya street in Barangay Tatalon at around 4:15 a.m.

The fire reached first alarm and was put out at around 4:47 a.m.

Arson investigators said the fire started in a vacant room on the third floor due to faulty electrical wiring.

Damage to property was estimated at P50,000.
