Pampanga’s most wanted fugitive slain

SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, Philippines — This province’s most wanted fugitive was killed in an alleged shootout with law enforcers on Thursday.

Derrick Castillo, who was tagged in a series of robbery-hold-ups of convenience stores, resisted arrest and fired at police operatives serving a warrant at his residence in Barangay Pandan in Angeles City, according to reports reaching Pampanga police chief Col. Alvin Ruby Consolacion.

A 9mm pistol, two sachets of shabu and a cellular phone were reportedly recovered from the fatality.

Meanwhile, joint teams of the police in Taal, Batangas and Magsaysay, Occidental Mindoro apprehended Batangas’ most wanted person, Jaypee Caraos, 37, at his hideout in Magsaysay town, also on Thursday.

Occidental Mindoro police director Col. Simeon Gane Jr. said the arrest was based on a warrant for the murder of Chief M/Sgt. Robert Arriola, head of the police intelligence unit in Alitagtag town, in 2019.
