MANILA, Philippines — Philippine movie icon Susan Roces will be laid to rest today at the Manila North Cemetery beside the tomb of her husband, the late National Artist Fernando Poe Jr.
All morning interments are postponed today to give way to Roces’ burial at 8 a.m., cemetery director Roselle Castañeda said.
Roces’ family has not yet coordinated with the cemetery management about the funeral rites, but the administration cleared the cemetery for the event, Castañeda added.
The Manila Police District will deploy 200 personnel for Roces’ burial. City hall will manage the flow of traffic in the area.
Roces, whose real name is Jesusa Sonora Poe, died of cardiopulmonary arrest on May 20. She was 80.
Roces was known as the “Queen of Philippine movies,” having starred in more than 130 films.
