Central Visayas workers to get wage hike
MANILA, Philippines — Minimum wage earners in Central Visayas are getting an increase of P31 in their daily take-home pay, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) announced yesterday.
DOLE Information and Public Service director Rolly Francia said the pay hike would bring the daily wage in the non-agriculture sector to P435 and P425 in the agriculture sector.
The regional wage board also approved an increase of P500 in the minimum monthly salary of domestic helpers in the region. This will raise the monthly pay of domestic workers in chartered cities and first class municipalities to P5,500 and P5,000 in other areas.
The wage order was forwarded for review to the National Wages Productivity Commission (NWPC).
Last Friday, the NWPC affirmed the wage orders in Mimaropa, Cagayan Valley and Soccsksargen. It also upheld the salary increase for domestic helpers in Cagayan Valley and Soccsksargen.
The wage orders shall take effect 15 days after publication in newspapers of general circulation.
The DOLE had earlier said the new wage orders in Metro Manila and Western Visayas would take effect on June 4 and 5, respectively.
The regional wage boards in Ilocos and Calabarzon had also earlier issued new wage orders. – The Freeman
