MANILA, Philippines — Sixty police officers will serve as special board of election inspectors (SBEI) in today’s special elections in Tubaran, Lanao del Sur.

“The policemen underwent training and were duly certified by the Department of Science and Technology to serve as SBEIs in case security concerns arise. They will conduct the special elections in order to maintain peaceful and orderly voting,” Commission on Elections (Comelec) deputy executive director for operations Teopisto Elnas Jr. said yesterday.

The elections will run from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m. The town of Tubaran will be secured by 850 policemen and 150 Army soldiers.

Comelec Commissioner George Garcia said the poll body is expecting high voter turnout. He said voters and residents have been assured of their safety.

A total of 6,921 registered voters are expected to cast their votes at 15 clustered precincts in the villages of Baguiangun, Datumanong, Gadongan, Guiarong, Malaganding, Metadicop, Mindamunag, Pagalamatan, Paigoday-pimbataan, Riantaran, Tangcal and Wago, all located in Tubaran.
