Zamboanga celebrates Hidilyn, local SEA Games medalists
ZAMBOANGA CITY , Philippines — The city government here hailed its weightlifting champion Hidilyn Diaz, who brought honor to the country anew after defending her Southeast Asian Games crown in the women’s 55kg weightlifting division yesterday.
Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar commended Diaz for continuously bringing honor to the city and inspiration to the public since she won the first Olympic gold for the country in Tokyo in 2020.
“It’s a gold medal for our very own Hidilyn Diaz. Enhorabuena (Congratulations) Hidilyn. Zamboanga City is proud as always,” Salazar said in a post on social media.
She also lauded other Zamboangueño athletes – Rosegie Ramos, Diaz’s niece who won a bronze medal in the 49kg women’s weightlifting, and Jhonny Morte, who won a silver medal in the men’s freestyle wrestling 65kg division.
The Zamboanga natives will receive cash incentives from the city government.
