Blast hits Lanao Sur town

MANILA, Philippines — Barely a week before the scheduled special elections, an explosion rocked Tubaran town in Lanao del Sur on Thursday.

Probers said the blast occurred at the headquarters of mayoral candidate Nashif Madki in Barangay Tangkal at around 1:05 a.m. There was no reported casualty.

Initial investigation showed an unidentified man fired an M203 grenade launcher.

Lanao del Sur police director Col. Christopher Panapan called for tightened security in the area to prevent a similar incident.
