Aiko’s partner wins congressional seat

SUBIC, Zambales, Philippines — Movie actress and Quezon City Councilor Aiko Melendez’s partner won as congressional representative of Zambales’ first district in the recent elections.

Vice Gov. Jefferson Khonghun won by a landslide against his opponent, former congresswoman Mitos Magsaysay by a margin of 116,299 votes.

Khonghun belongs to a dominant political family in Zambales, whose other members also won in the elections.

His sister Jacqueline was elected vice governor by a landslide over her opponent former vice governor Ramon Lacbain.

Jacqueline’s son Jamiel Escalona was reelected councilor of Olongapo City.

Another family member, Subic Mayor Jonathan Khonghun, won his reelection bid for another term.

The family patriarch, former first district congressman Jeffrey Khonghun was elected mayor of Castillejos, defeating his rivals, incumbent Mayor Jose Angelo Dominguez and former vice governor Angel Magsaysay.
