MANILA, Philippines — Manila Mayor Isko Moreno has suspended work at city hall a day after the elections to give way for the canvassing of votes.
Moreno, a presidential candidate, signed on May 6 Executive Order 46 declaring work suspension in the city government tomorrow.
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) Manila election unit had asked Moreno to declare May 10 a non-working holiday “to allow poll workers and the Board of Canvassers to perform vital post-election activities.”
Moreno said he approved the Comelec’s request since the “free and uninterrupted performance of functions of poll workers and board of canvassers is of paramount importance.”
However, workers involved in peace and order, public services, traffic enforcement, disaster risk reduction and management as well as health and sanitation are not covered by the work suspension order.
