Quakes rock Davao Oriental
MANILA, Philippines — Two earthquakes with magnitudes of 5.2 and 5.7 hit off the coast of Davao Oriental yesterday.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the 5.2-magnitude quake was recorded at around 4:16 a.m.
The temblor, which had a depth of 80 kilometers, struck 139 kilometers east of Tarragona town.
Phivolcs said the quake was an aftershock of the magnitude 5.5 earthquake that struck on April 20.
The magnitude 5.7 quake, which was recorded 133 kms east of Tarragona, occurred at around 5:41 a.m.
It was felt at Intensity 4, which is classified as moderately strong, in Tarragona; Intensity 3 in Digos City, Maco in Davao de Oro and Malungon, Sarangani; and Intensity 2 in Nabunturan and Pantukan in Davao de Oro, General Santos, Glan and Alabel in Sarangani as well as in Tupi, Tampakan and Koronadal in South Cotabato.
Phivolcs said there was no reported damage from the earthquakes, but aftershocks were expected.
