Thousands troop to job fairs
MANILA, Philippines — Thousands of jobseekers trooped yesterday to government-initiated job fairs in 26 sites nationwide, according to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
The DOLE said a total of 19,730 applicants had registered for job vacancies.
Of the number of job applicants, 2,262 were hired on the spot while 12,491 qualified for the vacancies they applied for. There were 7,907 “near hires.”
The DOLE said 16,581 jobseekers applied for local employment and 3,149 want to work overseas.
Close to 100 participants were referred to the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority for training.
According to DOLE, over 150,000 local and overseas jobs were offered in the “Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan Job and Business Fairs.”
Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said the participation of employers in the job fairs was a testament to the fulfillment of the government’s employment recovery during the pandemic.
