MANILA, Philippines — Three areas in Manila were placed under granular lockdown due to COVID-19 cases, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported yesterday.

The areas under lockdown consist of three houses in three barangays in Manila, affecting three individuals.

The PNP did not divulge the barangays where the locked-down houses are located.

Six police officers and six force multipliers are securing the areas, which were restricted to other people.

There are no other areas under granular lockdown in the rest of the country.

Up to 240,213 people were apprehended in Metro Manila for violating COVID-19 protocols.

Of the number, 239,808 were caught for non-compliance with minimum public health standards while 405 were apprehended for violating curfew ordinances by local government units.

Nationwide, at least 803,949 violators of COVID-19 health and safety guidelines were caught.

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) urged the public to continue practicing safety protocols after the country recorded its first case of the COVID-19 Omicron sub-variant BA 2.122.

In a statement, PRC chairman Sen. Richard Gordon reiterated the importance of regular testing for the detection of any variant of the virus.

No admissions in isolation centers

Meanwhile, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno said there were no patients admitted to the city government’s isolation centers as of yesterday.

None of the 693 beds for confirmed COVID-19 cases at the city’s isolation centers were occupied, he said during his “Capital Report” livestreamed by the city government.

No person occupied any of the 40 beds allotted for those suspected to have COVID-19, Moreno added.

Only four percent of beds at the city’s six hospitals for COVID-19 patients were taken, while 29 out of 344 beds at the Manila COVID-19 Field Hospital – equivalent to eight-percent occupancy – were used, he said.

He also thanked the National Parks Development Committee for allowing the city government to extend the stay of the field hospital at the Quirino Grandstand.

As of yesterday, there were 45 active COVID cases in Manila, which recorded 1,906 deaths and 111,951 recoveries. – Ghio Ong
