MANILA, Philippines — A seven-year-old boy died after he was beaten up and smashed into a pavement by his father in Rodriguez, Rizal on Wednesday.
The boy was brought by his neighbors to a clinic then later transferred to a hospital, where he died while being treated.
Eraño Veraces, who was caught on video naked while beating up the boy, died in police custody on Thursday.
Police said Veraces repeatedly slammed his head against the wall in his cell at the police station.
“That was after the inquest proceeding at about 11 a.m. of April 28. Said PUPC (person under police custody) became depressed... and started to (hit) his head against the wall. His fellow PUPC tried to calm the victim,” the police report read.
Veraces reportedly lost consciousness and was brought to the Casimiro Ynares Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival
