Abra, Davao Sur village chiefs slain

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — Two barangay captains in Bangued, Abra and Digos, Davao del Sur were killed in gun attacks on Wednesday.

Witnesses said Roni Bringas of Barangay Angad in Bangued was watching a basketball game when he was shot.

Probers are looking at politics as among the possible motives for the killing.

Last week, vice mayoral candidate Buc Luna went live on Facebook showing alleged vote-buying in Bringas’ home. The post went viral with more than 87,000 views.

In Digos, Angelito Balasbas of Barangay San Jose was driving his vehicle on his way home when a motorcycle-riding assailant opened fire.–  Emmanuel Tupas
