Flashfloods displace thousands in Maguindanao, North Cotabato

COTABATO CITY, Philippines — Flashfloods spawned by heavy rain swept through villages in several towns in Maguindanao and North Cotabato on Tuesday.

Around 10,000 villagers were affected, according to initial reports by concerned local government units.

Even the upland Barangay Itaw in South Upi, Maguindanao was hit with floods about a foot deep.

The Ampatuan municipal government reported that Barangay Saniag was submerged in floods. Low-lying areas in Midsayap and Aleosan in North Cotabato were also inundated.

In Davao de Oro, a resident reportedly died while more than 100 families were displaced by flooding in Maco town.
