MANILA, Philippines — Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año said yesterday he recommended to President Duterte two officers to be the next chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Año said he has submitted to the President the names of two possible successors of PNP chief Gen. Dionardo Carlos, who will retire on May 8.
“I have submitted the names of two senior police officials who may be designated by the President as the replacement of General Dionardo Carlos in an acting capacity,” Año told reporters.
He said Carlos’ term could still be extended.
“It’s up to President Duterte,” Año said.
The next in line to Carlos under the PNP hierarchy are Lt. Gen. Rhodel Sermonia, deputy chief for administration, and Lt. Gen. Vicente Danao, who is the chief of the Directorial Staff.
