Romblon bets: Report vote-buying, get cash incentives

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Opposition candidates in Romblon are offering cash incentives to anyone who will come forward to report vote-buying in the province.

Vice Gov. Felix Ylagan, who is seeking reelection, said they would give a reward of P50,000.

“I am appealing to individuals who have witnessed vote-buying activities to come forward and file a complaint against these candidates,” Ylagan, provincial chairman of Aksyon Demokratiko, said.

He said Vice Mayor Diven Dimaala of Odiongan town offered P300,000 as initial fund for those who will report incidents of vote-buying.

Board member Jose Madrid had earlier called on the Commission on Elections to investigate what they claimed was “rampant” vote-buying by local officials allied with presidential candidate Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

“It’s very alarming. Reports of vote-buying has started in several towns in Romblon as early as the first week of this month,” Madrid said.
