3 killed in Samar gun attack
TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines — Three habal-habal riders were killed while three others survived a gun attack in Calbayog, Samar on Monday.
The fatalities were identified as habal-habal driver and secretary of Barangay San Antonio Mart Vicentino; Gelma Wahingon, 22, and Nilda de Pedro, 48.
Initial investigation showed the victims were shot in Barangay San Jose.
Probers are looking at robbery as a possible motive for the killing as the assailants took the bag of one of the victims.
Samar first district Rep. Edgar Sarmiento said the incident could also be politically motivated, noting that the victims were long-time supporters of the Liberal Party in the province.
Last Friday, Domingo Alvarez, a candidate for councilor in Lope de Vega, Northern Samar was also killed in a shooting in Calbayog City.
