BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Soldiers recovered high- powered firearms and ammunition from suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels following an encounter in Sitio Halog, Barangay Sandayao in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental on Thursday.
Personnel of the 62nd Infantry Battalion and 33rd Division Reconnaissance Company were responding to complaints of extortion from residents when they clashed with around 15 members of the NPA’s Central Negros Front 1 Sentro De Grabidad Platoon, Brig. Gen. Inocencio Pasaporte, 303rd Infantry Brigade commander, said.
Pasaporte said an R4 automatic assault rifle with a short magazine with bullets, a KG9 submachine gun with a loaded magazine and subversive documents were among those recovered as the rebels fled the scene.
No one was injured on the side of government forces, who were still scouring the encounter site as of yesterday afternoon.
