Magnitude 6.1 quake hits Davao Oriental
MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck off the coast of Davao Oriental yesterday.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the epicenter of the quake, which occurred at around 5:57 a.m., was recorded 82 kilometers east of the town of Manay.
The quake was felt at Intensity 4 or moderately strong in Manay, Mati City, Caraga and San Isidro in Davao Oriental.
It was felt at Intensity 3 in Bagnanga, Tarragona and Cateel in Davao Oriental, Davao City, Panabo in Davao del Norte and Malungon, Sarangani. It was felt at Intensity 2 in Digos and Hagonoy in Davao del Sur, General Santos and Tupi and Tampakan in South Cotabato.
Phivolcs said aftershocks are expected from the quake.
