MANILA, Philippines — The vice mayor of Rizal town in Cagayan province who is wanted for the murder of a municipal councilor was arrested in Quezon City on Monday, police said yesterday.
Vice Mayor Joel Ruma was apprehended by operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and Kamuning police station 10 in front of a condominium building in Barangay South Triangle.
Police served a warrant for the arrest of Ruma issued by Judge Vilma Pauig of the Tuguegarao City Regional Trial Court Branch 2 for the killing of Alfredo Alvarez in 2018.
No bail was recommended for Ruma’s temporary liberty.
Police tagged Ruma as the alleged mastermind in Alvarez’s murder.
Ruma was brought to the CIDG headquarters at Camp Crame in Quezon City for disposition.
