Taguig opens first of 19 community centers

MANILA, Philippines — The Taguig City government has opened the first of its 19 multi-level community centers aimed at making government services readily available and closer to its constituents.

The local government opened on Wednesday its Rockyside community Center in Barangay Bagumbayan which has fully furnished common and lounge areas for community groups, meetings, activities and other functions.

Mayor Lino Cayetano said the area will serve as a government satellite office wherein city hall services such as the issuance of burial and financial assistance may be processed.

He said the building is one of the 19 community centers they will construct in Taguig as the city adapts to the new normal under the COVID-19 pandemic.

“These infrastructure projects are proof that despite the pandemic, Taguig continues to log successes, which benefit our constituents in the short and the long run,” Cayetano said in a statement.

The community center also has a child development center that serves as a daycare center for young residents of the city. Clean restrooms for men, women and persons with disabilities are available.

There is also a court for sports such as basketball, volleyball, zumba and yoga for those looking to keep themselves fit and healthy.

Police officers and barangay watchmen will be deployed in the area to maintain peace and order.
