Pasig PIO Twitter account hacked

Neil Jayson Servallos - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Pasig City Public Information Office (PIO)’s Twitter account was hacked apparently by cryptocurrency traders, who used the social media account to market free “non-fungible tokens” or NFT.

The PIO confirmed the hacking incident yesterday, saying it managed to retrieve the account through Twitter’s help.

“The city’s official Twitter account with the handle
@PasigInfo was hacked at around 10 p.m. on Saturday, which led to the tagging of thousands of Twitter accounts into a tweet containing a promo from @AzukiOfficial,” the PIO said in a statement.

The hacker tagged Twitter users in the tweets it sent using the PIO’s account, in which they were promoting an NFT drop.

The hacker also changed the PIO Twitter account’s name to Pasig.eth, which is short for Ether, the cryptocurrency of the Ethereum network, which is the second most popular digital token after bitcoin.

The bio was also changed into “co-founder of @AzukiOfficial.”
