Fires hit Marikina, Quezon City

MANILA, Philippines — Seventeen families lost their homes when two fires broke out in Marikina and Quezon City since Monday.

In Barangay Malanday, Marikina, a fire started at around 9:47 a.m. in the bedroom of a two-story house owned by the Ramos family, according to a report from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

The fire reached first alarm and destroyed five houses, displacing 15 families or 70 individuals, before firefighters put out the flames at around 10:30 a.m., the BFP said.

Investigators have yet to determine the cause of the fire, which destroyed P100,000 worth of property.

In Quezon City, two families were left homeless in a fire that destroyed their shanties and P3,000 worth of property in Barangay Batasan Hills yesterday.

The blaze broke out at around 6:54 a.m. and reached first alarm before it was doused by firefighters at around 7:28 a.m.

Investigators said the fire originated at the shanty owned by the Llego family. The cause has not been determined.
