Woman, 2 kids die in Taguig blaze
MANILA, Philippines — A mother and her two children died when a fire broke out at a residential community in Taguig City yesterday morning.
The remains of Ivy Verde, 33, and her children Chris Ingrid, 4, and Chris Jhayvien, 3, were recovered by firefighters in the bathroom of their house in Barangay Calzada, an employee at the Taguig fire station said in a phone interview.
A report over dzBB said Verde returned to their house after saving her four-month-old child. However, she and her two other children were trapped as the fire engulfed their home.
The Bureau of Fire Protection said the blaze started at around 9:49 a.m. and reached second alarm.
Arson probers said the fire originated on the second floor of a two-story house owned by Obdulia delos Santos, 62, who was injured.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The fire destroyed around 50 houses along Sta. Barbara street, displacing at least 100 families, who sought shelter at a public school.
Firefighters put out the fire at around 11:59 a.m.
An estimated P350,000 worth of property was destroyed in the fire.
