Another cop dies of COVID-19

MANILA, Philippines — A policewoman battling breast cancer has died of COVID-19, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported yesterday.

PNP chief Gen. Dionardo Carlos said the 46-year-old PNP personnel, who was assigned in Cagayan Valley, died at her home on March 28.

The patient was brought to a hospital after she vomited and lost consciousness. She was pronounced dead on arrival in a hospital.

“Base sa record na ibinigay sa PNP Health Service, ang naturang pulis ay mayroong comorbidity at nakipaglaban sa sakit na breast cancer,” Carlos said.

A post mortem examination and swab test showed the patient was positive for COVID-19. She was fully vaccinated last November.

A total of 129 PNP members have died of COVID since 2020.

The number of active cases in the police force is down to two as of yesterday.

Up to 223,038 police personnel have been fully vaccinated, 189,515 received their booster shots while 1,104 are waiting for their second dose.

A total of 527 PNP personnel remain unvaccinated, 297 of them refusing to be inoculated with no valid reason.
