MANILA, Philippines — At least 25,000 supporters attended Sunday night’s proclamation rally of Manila Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna, who is running for mayor to succeed presidential candidate Isko Moreno.
The Manila Police District gave the estimates on the crowd that attended Lacuna’s rally along Earnshaw street in Sampaloc.
Moreno endorsed Lacuna and her running mate, actor and congressman Yul Servo-Nieto, to continue his programs in Manila.
In her speech, Lacuna said she is ready for the mayoral post, adding that she was not a spare tire as vice mayor to Moreno.
As a physician, Lacuna led the city’s vaccination and pandemic response programs.
“Here in Manila, everyone is equal. My being a woman was never an issue,” said Lacuna, Manila’s first woman vice mayor. She is the daughter of former vice mayor Danny Lacuna.
Moreno touted the elder Lacuna as his mentor in politics.
Lacuna’s proclamation rally was attended by Moreno’s senatorial candidates, entertainer Mocha Uson and senatorial bet JV Ejercito.
