Manila opens second ‘Tondominium’ tower

Marc Jayson Cayabyab - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Manila city government opened yesterday the second tower of its vertical housing project in Vitas, Tondo.

At least 98 families were among the first batch of beneficiaries, according to the city public information office.

Mayor Isko Moreno said the beneficiaries would benefit from paying P2,000 monthly rent because of the amenities in the residential building.

The 15-story tower has 168 units, two elevators as well as day care and livelihood centers.

Moreno opened the first tower in February.

The P1-billion “Tondominium” is Moreno’s flagship housing project for informal settlers before his first term as mayor ends.

He is seeking the presidency in May. If he wins, Moreno promises to build one million houses for 4.5 million Filipinos in six years and allot 1.3 percent of gross domestic product to housing per year.
