MANILA, Philippines — Twenty of 21 barangays in San Juan have been declared free of COVID-19, according to the local government.
From 1,947 COVID-19 cases on Jan. 12 when infections peaked due to the Omicron variant, Mayor Francis Zamora said there are only two active cases in the city.
The two residents who are recuperating from COVID-19 are from Barangay Salapan, Zamora said.
With COVID-19 cases at their lowest in San Juan two years after the pandemic started, the local government yesterday celebrated the city’s 115th founding anniversary.
Zamora led the celebration at the FilOil Flying V Center.
“For the last two years, we were not able to celebrate San Juan’s foundation day due to quarantine restrictions. We thank all our partners who helped us in the fight against COVID-19,” he said in a statement.
