Munti execs scrap motorcade to give aid

MANILA, Philippines — Officials running under the One Muntinlupa Party canceled a motorcade yesterday to pass a resolution giving aid to the victims of a fire that hit a residential area in the city on Thursday night.

In a Facebook post, Councilor Raul Corro said members of the city council held an emergency special session yesterday to pass an appropriations ordinance for the 50 families affected by the fire in Ilaya, Alabang.

The funds would be provided to those affected through the Philippine Red Cross, he added.

Campaign rallies pushed through yesterday afternoon.

Corro is among the candidates for city councilor running under the party, led by Muntinlupa Rep. Ruffy Biazon, who is running for the city’s mayoral post, and Mayor Jaime Fresnedi, who is seeking to represent Muntinlupa in the House of Representatives.

Meanwhile, candidates of Team Sulong Bagong Parañaque led by Mayor Edwin Olivarez also kicked off their campaign with a mass at the San Antonio de Padua church yesterday. Olivarez is running for Congress while his brother, Rep. Eric Olivarez, is seeking the city’s top post.
