Magnitude 5.1 quake hits Cagayan

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck off the coast of Cagayan on Wednesday night, according to the Phillipine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.

Phivolcs said the tectonic earthquake was recorded at about 8:02 p.m. east of Camiguin Island in Calayan town.

The quake had a depth of 20 kilometers.

Phivolcs said the temblor was felt at Intensity 3 in Aparri and Gonzaga, Intensity 2 in Peñablanca, Iguig and Tuguegarao and Intensity 1 in Claveria.

Instrumental intensities were also felt in Gonzaga and Claveria as well as Pasuquin and Laoag City in Ilocos Norte.

There was no reported damage but aftershocks were expected from the quake.
