MANILA, Philippines — A British citizen believed to be the leader of a crime ring operating in Metro Manila and his Filipino wife were arrested in Makati before dawn yesterday.
Darren Wall and his wife, Khanary Jane Wall, were nabbed by operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in a nightclub at the corner of Doña Carmen street and Kalayaan Avenue in Barangay Poblacion at around 2:50 a.m.
A background investigation by the CIDG on Wall revealed that he has a pending fraud case in the United Kingdom based on records from the Interpol.
Wall allegedly stole 21,000 euros from a cash machine in London in 2013.
Col. Randy Glenn Silvio, chief of the CIDG National Capital Region field unit, said the operation stemmed from the complaint of a civilian who alleged that Wall beat him up and threatened him with a gun in the nightclub.
Police went to the establishment and arrested Wall, who was armed with a 9mm gun.
The foreigner’s wife was also taken in police custody for disobedience to persons in authority.
The couple allegedly yielded around six grams of cocaine valued at P56,000.
Quoting a police report, Silvio said Wall is the alleged leader of a crime group involved in kidnapping, extortion, drug trafficking and gunrunning.
Police said Wall’s group is operating in southern Metro Manila.
Charges of drug trafficking, disobedience to persons in authority and slander are being readied against the suspects.
