2 hazing suspects under PNP custody
CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — A member of the Tau Gamma fraternity has surrendered while another has been arrested in connection with the death of an 18-year-old student due to alleged hazing in Kalayaan, Laguna on Sunday.
Venzon Benedict Lacaocao, 19, was turned over by his brother while Reyvince Espaldon, 19, was apprehended in a follow-up operation on Monday, town police chief Lt. Enrico Bestid said yesterday.
The two suspects were charged with homicide and violation of the Anti-Hazing Act.
Police have launched a manhunt for seven other suspects.
The victim, Reymarc Rabutazo, who reportedly drowned in a river, was declared dead on arrival at the General Cailles Hospital in Pakil town.
Initial investigation showed the victim suffered severe body trauma believed caused by the blows during fraternity rites.
Members of the Tau Gamma fraternity reportedly initiated the hazing on a hilly portion of the Twin Falls in Barangay San Juan.
