Lawmaker’s son beats up security guard
MANILA, Philippines — A group of men led by a son of House Deputy Speaker and Negros Oriental Rep. Arnolfo Teves Jr. beat up a security guard at BF Homes in Parañaque City over the weekend.
The viral video of the incident showed Jomar Pajares being beaten up by Kurt Mathew Teves and his companions.
“This incident reflects the rotten society and government,” presidential aspirant Leody de Guzman tweeted on Sunday.
De Guzman said the incident where Pajares was punched, kicked and humiliated by the suspects showed the “abusive behavior by rich and powerful families of politicians.” The labor leader sought justice for Pajares.
Pajares told GMA News he did not allow Teves to enter BF Homes since the motorist did not have a residential sticker.
Another gate is open for those who do not have a sticker, but a motorist entering the subdivision should leave an identification card, Pajares said.
An angry Teves left, but returned later with companions in another vehicle. They got out of the vehicle and talked to Pajares, during which he was beaten up.
A tearful Pajares said he was worried for his family and was now scared to do his job. He said Teves challenged him to a shootout.
In a statement, the BF Federation of Homeowners Associations Inc. (BFFHAI) condemned the incident.
“Pajares was merely doing his job and the BFFHAI condemns in the strongest terms this totally uncalled for violence against him,” the statement read.
“The rules on stickers were designed primarily to ensure the security of the homeowners. No one should be above these rules regardless of social status, political inclination or influence,” it added.
