Student dies from ‘hazing’

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — An 18-year-old student has died after reportedly undergoing hazing in Kalayaan, Laguna, authorities reported yesterday.

Reymarc Rabutazo was declared dead on arrival at the General Cailles Hospital in nearby Pakil town, where he was rushed after he reportedly drowned in a river.

Rabutazo’s grandmother reported the incident to the Kalayaan police on Sunday afternoon.

Investigation showed the victim suffered severe body trauma believed caused by the blows during fraternity rites.

The hazing was reportedly conducted by members of the Tau Gamma Fraternity on a hilly portion of the Twin Falls in Barangay San Juan.

Some members of the fraternity have reportedly signified their intention to cooperate in the investigation.
