Quezon City very low risk for COVID-19 – OCTA
MANILA, Philippines — Quezon City is now very low risk for COVID-19 amid the continued drop in new cases over the past week, a member of the OCTA Research Group announced yesterday.
OCTA fellow Guido David said the city recorded an average of 25 daily COVID cases from March 10 to 16, down 22 percent from the preceding week.
During the same period, Quezon City registered an average daily attack rate (ADAR) of 0.79 per 100,000 people and a reproduction number of 0.23.
According to David, the number of new COVID-19 infections in Quezon City represents 16 percent of the total new cases in the entire National Capital Region (NCR).
“This projects to a seven-day average of around 154 cases in the NCR. This means that Metro Manila remains at low risk, although it should be close to moving to very low risk category once the ADAR decreases below 1.0,” he said.
David said Metro Manila’s current ADAR is 1.09 daily new COVID infections per 100,000 people.
He admitted that it is difficult to make projections after the Department of Health stopped releasing daily data drops in COVID-19 cases.
“It is not clear if COVID cases are leveling or if there will be a change in the direction,” David said, projecting 500 to 600 new infections on Thursday.
