MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police has identified four persons of interest as the Special Investigation Task Group ‘America’ probes into the shooting incident involving Infanta Mayor Filipina America.

To recall, the local chief executive and re-electionist was attacked on the morning of February 27 in Barangay Poblacion 1, Infanta, Quezon after attending church service.

In a statement sent to reporters Thursday, the PNP said that local probers checked evidence such as CCTV footage showing the possible suspects within the vicinity of the crime scene.

“We are still in the process of determining how much of politics can really be involved in this slay try. Our coordination with the Commission on Elections regarding this incident is constant so as to identify the climate of violence that may persist in the area,” Police Gen. Dionardo Carlos said.

At the third conference of the SITG along with the Election Related Incident Validation Committee, investigators presented sworn statements from four personalities expected to provide leads to the persons of interests seen on the footage.

The PNP-Regional Forensic Unit in Calabarzon has already conducted cross-matching examination of the recovered pieces of evidence.

The local official is known for her stand against quarrying in the town. The mayor and the Infanta local government were also among those who were vocal in their opposition to the construction of the Kaliwa Dam, which will submerge parts of Quezon and Rizal provinces.

The PNP said she also admitted to receiving death threats which are either job or election-related. America requested ample time so she can give her full testimony on the case at hand.
