MANILA, Philippines — Three policemen were arrested for alleged extortion and sexual harassment of a former inmate in Palo, Leyte on Thursday.
Senior M/Sgt. Alex Asis, S/Sgt.Raffy Retosar and Cpl. Jerwin Dacillo were apprehended by operatives of the Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group after receiving P6,000 in marked money from the complainant.
Philippine National Police chief Gen. Dionardo Carlos said the operation stemmed from the complaint of a woman who was arrested on charges of extortion last Oct. 29.
The woman claimed the three policemen continued to ask money from her for almost four months even after she was released on bail. She also accused the suspects of sexually harassing her.
“I assure the public that we continue our aggressive campaign to rid our ranks of policemen destroying our organization,” Carlos said in a statement.
Apart from charges of robbery, extortion and sexual harassment, the three policemen are facing administrative charges for grave misconduct.
