KORONADAL CITY, Philippines — A person died and two footbridges were damaged by flashfloods amid heavy rain in Lake Sebu, South Cotabato on Tuesday.
Rolly Aquino of the South Cotabato Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) said the body of the villager, who drowned in a river in Barangay Ned, has been recovered.
Aquino said the PDRRMO and the municipal government of Lake Sebu are assisting residents displaced by flooding, particularly in Barangays Lamhalak and Halilan.
Rampaging floodwaters destroyed a footbridge in Barangay Halilan and another in Barangay Dumangas at the border of Lake Sebu and T’Boli.
In Maguindanao, mud and rocks that cascaded from a hillside destroyed eight houses in Upi town.
Emergency responders said about 300 cubic meters of mud and rocks from a hill in Purok 3A in Barangay Nuro flattened houses that were made of light materials.
