Flashfloods hit Iligan; 3 bridges damaged

John Unson - The Philippine Star

COTABATO CITY, Philippines — Flashfloods due to continuous heavy rain over the weekend have damaged bridges in Iligan City.

The Tubod, Palao and Mirilla Baraas bridges were closed for repair and clearing of mud and debris.

Mud and rocks due to a landslide also blocked a road connecting a residential area to the city proper.

Iligan Mayor Celso Regencia suspended work and classes in all levels on Monday.

More than 1,000 families displaced by flooding have returned to their homes as the water receded.

The heavy rain was spawned by a low-pressure area monitored off Mindanao.
