MANILA, Philippines — The Japanese government has approved P20 million worth of grants to support initiatives of three local government units and a microfinance non-government organization (NGO) in the Philippines.

Japanese Ambassador Koshikawa Kazuhiko on Thursday signed the four grant contracts under the Japanese government’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects.

In his message during the ceremony, Koshikawa said the four projects, which had a total grant amount of $393,881 (around P20 million), will address issues that are integral to ensuring social and economic development for all.

Among the approved proposals were the provision of two ambulances for the city government of Parañaque, construction of the Grace Park Health Center in Caloocan City and the provision of medical equipment for the rural health unit in Palo, Leyte.

The Japanese government also approved the proposal of Ahon sa Hirap Inc., a microfinance NGO, to provide delivery trucks for small farmers in Laguna, Rizal and Antique. – Ghio Ong
