Pasig removes campaign materials from city hall

Neil Jayson Servallos - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Pasig City government has removed the campaign materials of a party-list group and an ally of Mayor Vico Sotto from the city hall building, an official said yesterday.

Streamers of the Bisaya Gyud group and Simon Tantoco, who is running for city councilor, were mounted on an insurance policy application booth on the building’s seventh floor, which is occupied by members of the city council, according to an ABS-CBN News report.

City Administrator Jeron Manzanero said the organizers were granted permission to hold the event at the city hall and Mega Market, “just like any other campaign activities in the city of Pasig – whether national or local.”

“The city government is not privy to the activities held by the organizers,” he said in a statement.

Manzanero said the campaign materials mounted at the booth were removed as soon as questions were raised about them.

Sotto announced on Monday that the city government does not allow campaign materials to be posted in public spaces, including city hall, and that “all Pasig residents are authorized to take these down.”
